Without foster homes, we could not accomplish anything at Stray from the Heart, and we never have enough. Webster's Collegiate Dictionary defines the word "FOSTER" as this: "affording, receiving, or sharing nurture or parental care though not related by blood or legal ties." Something to think about.. not only will you be nurturing, but you will "share" that nurture, by getting it back from your charge a thousand fold. These animals need doors that will open wide for them and guardians that will "share" the love that they so desperately long for but may have never known. Someone that can help them adjust and cope and LEARN that life can be full of joy and happiness.... prepare them for that special "forever" home that they are one step away from finding. You can be a part of this magical time for them. You can be that special someone!
Foster parents are essentially temporary dog adopters. Fosters agree to take a dog, or dogs, into their homes and care for them as if they were their own, until they can be adopted by "forever" homes. The typical duties of fostering a dog include feeding, walking and providing them with play time and socialization. As foster parents, your observations and feedback about the dog's needs and temperament will help us place the dog in a suitable home. Fostering is great for people who cannot make a long-term commitment to have a dog as a companion but still want to help out. Those who foster include people who travel frequently, may need to make a career move or relocation in the near future, or those who simply don't want to make a permanent commitment to a dog only to return it down the road. Fostering is also ideal for those who are ready and willing to make a long-term commitment to have a dog but are uncertain about which dog might be a good match for their lifestyle. In a sense, foster parents are our shelter space – by providing temporary housing for our dogs who have not yet found that perfect "forever" home. More importantly, fostering provides socialization and training, as well as immediate security and confidence to our rescued dogs. Please fill out a dog foster form. After reviewing this, a foster counselor will contact you to discuss your specific interest, and to set up an appointment for a home inspection. Once this is complete, you are on your way to fostering one of our very special strays! The main responsibility is to provide a clean, nurturing home, routine walks and socialization until a permanent home is found. This includes feeding, cleaning and grooming your new foster dog (food and other supplies can be provided if requested) and helping with any special needs that your foster dog may have. No, not unless you wanted to and were able to help in that respect. Remember, we are always in need of donations! However, SFTH will pay for all medical bills during the foster care period. All our dogs can only be placed for adoption through Stray from the Heart's adoption process. If you know of a person that is seriously interested in adopting the dog, please refer them to our adoption staff. |
