Dear animal lover,

I hope you will consider taking part in this very special benefit.

Stray From the Heart is a very special if struggling new charity. Over the past year, we have managed to save over 200 dogs. We rescue them off the streets or out of abusive or neglectful homes, get them medical care and some TLC, and place them into wonderful, loving homes where they thrive.

Dogs like Bambi, a 3 month old Am Staff, who was found with a bunch of kids, her head weighted down, being literally dragged by an eight-pound metal chain with a lock on it wrapped around her tiny neck. Bambi was terrified when she was rescued, but by that evening she was bouncing around, chasing a ball of socks and lapping up huge bowls full of water. Today, Bambi is the star of her new home, where she is cuddled every night and played with every day. We think that Bambi hit the Jackpot, but her new parents are the ones who think they struck gold.

Or dogs like Heidi, a 2 month old black Lab who was tied to a fence, cold and scared, for 48 hours before we found her. I fostered this little one, and when I went to pick up the dirty little bundle wrapped in a blanket, Heidi stretched her arms out, grabbed my shoulders, put her head against mine, and clung to me, bear-hugging, for an hour until we got home. Two weeks later, little Heidi (named so because she used to hide) became a whirling dervish of a puppy, rolling around with my dog, licking our faces each morning (the living alarm clock) and chewing every bone in site. She is now in a great new home where she will spend her days romping in the woods and fields of Woodstock NY, and her evenings cuddling with the two people who love her more than anything else in the world.

It is stories like these that make me work almost full-time for this completely volunteer-based organization that never turns a dog away and never gives up on a tough case. We rely completely on donations for our funding, and because we are non-profit, every penny we receive goes directly towards helping our babies get healthy, happy and into perfect, permanent homes.

My latest fundraising effort is an evening of song entitled, "Stray From the Heart Presents Songs From the Heart: Broadway Goes to the Dogs." It should be a lot of fun and a great way to raise some much-needed money for this wonderful organization. I hope you will consider taking part in this evening, to help me make a real profit for the puppies, not to mention having a performance to remember!

Sincerely,
Erin Leigh Peck
